Residential Services For Youth

Encouraging Secure & Stable Attachments

We encourage a secure and stable attachment between the youth living in our resource home and our Residential Youth Care Workers, as we have found that these attachments increase our clients’ sense of stability and predictability. Each of our Specialized Residential Staffed Resource homes can accommodate one child or youth (two if they are siblings). Thanks to our one client per resource model, the client has a greater advantage of forming an attachment to the Residential Youth Care Workers and their home, helping them find the tools they need to develop into their full potential.

01

Person-Centred Planning

Comprehensive Care Resources uses a person-centred planning process for all youth that we serve. We begin with a complete assessment when the clients are placed with us. Assessments are then reviewed and updated once a year.

The purpose of the assessment is to collect the youth’s personal information to help create their unique and goal-oriented individualized plan. It helps our company understand what it is that they would like or want while being in our care. Individualized Plans are updated and reviewed three times a year.

The individualized plan covers the youth’s physical, medical, psychological, social and spiritual needs. They are expected to attend and participate in all meetings surrounding their planning. The youths are included in creating personal goal statements for themselves. These personal goals will help them to obtain skills and objectives they would like to individually work on, while we track their personal achievements!

02

Nutrition & Health Plan

Nourishing the body and brain can help stabilize the client’s moods. We set up menu and meal plans, taking into consideration the personal choices of the client.

03

Routine Schedules

We create daily routine schedules with our client’s input to provide them with structure for their day-to-day activities.

04

Meeting Support

We support our clients in all their professional and educational meetings by providing transportation to their appointments, unless directed otherwise by their Legal Guardian. We also assist in managing and scheduling meetings and appointments if needed.

05

Educational Support

For clients who are unable to attend school in a regular classroom setting, we work with tutors and virtual school classes to help our clients continue their education (based on their willingness to learn). We also liaison with teaching faculty at the school level.

06

Life Skills

We encourage and support our clients learning new life skills and participating in community events—baking, cooking, grocery shopping, meal planning, banking and budgeting, navigating transportation, gardening, sports, extra-curricular activities, etc.—based on their interests and abilities. We encourage our clients to become more physically active, as physical activity can help with mood and building confidence.

07

Work Skills

We frequently offer opportunities to learn work skills pertinent to our client’s interest and abilities. Some of the work skills we teach include resume building, mock interviews, job search, and achieving a professional appearance for the workplace.

08

Social Interactions

We encourage and accompany our clients to social venues—movie theatre, restaurants, seasonal events, etc.—as well as teach and support healthy peer relationships, including tips and tricks for being a good friend and how to recognize bullying. The skills and strategies we teach are designed to help our clients learn how to behave proactively in peer situations.

09

Transitioning into Adulthood

We provide assistance and support for youth transitioning into CLBC or adulthood by encouraging them to learn skills required for their future living situation, such as independence and information about supported housing or home share placements.
